PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man who was found unresponsive in his home after a reported burglary has now been charged with filing a false report.

Forest Grove Police said Brian Couture, 40, called 911 on March 6, 2019, and said a stranger had come into his home through the sliding glass door and fought him.

Authorities investigated and used K-9s to search for a suspect but found nothing.

Couture later admitted that he staged the incident and police believe he did so to conceal the theft of money from Girl Scouts of the USA.

He was arrested Monday on charges of initiating a false report and 2nd-degree theft.
