PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Michael Wolfe, the suspected killer of Karissa and Billy Fretwell, appeared in Yamhill County court Wednesday.
Wolfe, 52, is charged with kidnapping and killing the 25-year-old woman and their 3-year-old son. Their bodies were found about 10 miles outside the city of Yamhill after a weeks-long search.
Karissa died from a gunshot to the head, but the cause of Billy’s death has not yet been revealed. Shortly before their deaths, she had been battling Wolfe for child support for Billy.
Wolfe appeared at Wednesday’s hearing by video. He did not enter a plea.
His defense attorneys filed a motion to preserve evidence and notify Wolfe of testing.
The hearing comes just days after friends and family of the young mother and son from Salem held a celebration of life to honor and remember their lives.
“It’s definitely a very heart-wrenching story that kind of touches anyone that has a son at that age,” said Karissa’s sister, Katrina Kent. “Their lives were taken way too young and we will miss both of them so much.”
Wolfe is due back in court on Aug. 5 for a hearing on several pre-trial motions. The defense has until October to finish their initial evidence-sharing process.
