Boy admits to setting fires at his middle school

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A middle school student admitted to setting a fire that caused significant damage to his middle school.

Oregon State Police said firefighters were called to Harbor Lights Middle School in Bandon Saturday evening, where two fires burned the boys locker room and destroyed some football equipment.

Investigators believed the fires were set on purpose and started investigating the fires as arson.

A student was identified as a suspect and later admitted to starting the fire. The Coos County DA’s office will handle potential charges.

Police said the school was able to be open as scheduled on Monday.
