PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A thief broke into a jewelry store in Portland’s Nob Hill neighborhood for the 3rd time in just 13 months.
The most recent break-in at Jewelry on 23rd happened between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Someone had tossed a rock through the store’s window and ransacked one of the jewelry cases.
Jewelry on 23rd is no stranger to robberies. The couple who runs the shop is frustrated by the rash of break-ins that have left them with broken windows and major losses.
This time, the broken window and stolen rings and necklaces will cost Joel Mikkalson and his wife thousands of dollars.
Mikkalson told KOIN 6 News he had just landed at PDX after a vacation when he got the call from Portland Police.
“It doesn’t feel good. You feel like a victim,” he said of the robbery.
The frustrated owner thinks whoever is responsible for the theft has a rap sheet of burglaries. But Mikkalson said preventing future robberies is a tricky task.
“You don’t want a roll-down iron and garage doors on the street, it scares people away,” he said. “It’s a tough situation.”
