Portland police said the suspect had fled the scene before they arrived

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was wounded in a Saturday evening shooting in Northeast Portland’s Cully neighborhood and the suspect is at large, officers said.

Portland police responded to reports of gunfire in the 5300 block of Northeast Killingsworth Street at 7:30 p.m.

Officers said they found one man who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was gone when officers arrived.

Detectives concentrated their investigation on a unit in the back of the Carlton Court Apartments near a playground.

A woman at the complex told KOIN 6 News she’s related to the man who was shot.

Another woman who lives nearby said Saturday’s shooting happened just about 10 blocks from where Deante Strickland was killed the day before.

“I don’t like it, we can do better as a community,” said Shell Preston. “There is a lot of kids up-coming. We have got to do better, show our kids a better way to live because this is getting worse and summertime is here now — it’s going to get even worse before it’s going to get better. We got to do better as a community, everyone. Everyone has to do their part.”
