One dead in NE Portland shooting, suspect fled


The victim died at the scene near North Williams Avenue and Northeast Russell Street

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Police are searching for the person who fatally shot a man in Northeast Portland Sunday evening.

The victim, later identified 25-year-old Tylone Tolliver, as was found on the ground with a gunshot wound around 6:40 p.m. on July 28 near North Williams Avenue and Northeast Russell Street.

The victim’s brother-in-law told KOIN 6 News he was a father with a large extended family.

“It’s really heart-breaking right now,” Arnold Settles said. “It’s my brother-in-law, you know.”

Neighbor Sara Stout said this shooting shattered the peace of a quiet Sunday.

“I was out in my yard fixing my bicycle and I hear what sounds like fireworks,” Stout said. “Hearing this pop pop pop and kind of not stopping and almost because there was so many I thought for sure fireworks.”

“It’s sad, somebody lost their life, just tragic….awful,” she said.

Streets in the area are closed while police investigate and search for the suspect.

“I hope they find them, I hope they do,” Settles said.
