Suspected driver in TJ Maxx hit-and-run arrested


Police are still trying to find the second suspect

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman accused of fleeing after shoplifting from TJ Maxx and hitting a bicyclist has been arrested.

Salem police said Desiree LaMorte, 28, was the driver during the July 27 hit-and-run. She and another woman were seen on surveillance video leaving the TJ Maxx that night.

LaMorte faces charges of assault II, failure to perform the duties of a driver and theft II.

The bicyclist who was hit is a 61-year Salem man who was last said to be in critical condition.

Police are still looking for the other woman. She is described as a 6-foot tall, medium build, light-skinned black woman with dark hair and a deep voice.
