PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman has at least one fractured leg after being struck by a car while sleeping in a tent.
The victim was camping out in a grassy area near Southeast Division Street in Portland. The driver, Shayla Valdez, was reportedly merging onto I-205 northbound when she failed to negotiate a curve, hit a sign and drove into the tent around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday. Three total people were in the tent but only the one woman was hurt.
The victim was sent to the hospital but her injuries were non-life threatening.
The 20-year-old driver was cited for careless driving. She stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.
