SHERWOOD, Ore. (KOIN) — Following a nearly month-long investigation, a 54-year-old Sherwood man was arrested for animal neglect and possessing dogfighting paraphernalia.
The investigation of Russell Fernandez began on October 19 when the Washington County Sheriff’s Offfice got a tip that 2 pit bull puppies from a residence in the 19000 block of SW Pacific Highway were given to an animal rescue organization.
The dogs were malnourished and had an abnormal gait, officials said.
When the property was searched on November 13, authorities said they found 4 dogs confined to sheds or wire crates with no access to water and very little food. They also said they found the dogfighting equipment.
Two donkeys and a goat were found outside and their health is being evaluated.
Fernandez faces 7 total charges: first-and second-degree animal neglect and possession of dogfighting paraphernalia.
