PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 2-car crash killed a passenger and critically injured a driver Friday afternoon, closing Hwy 211 for more than 5 hours.

Maurice Deets was driving a Subaru Legacy when it crossed from the northbound lanes into the oncoming traffic and hit a Dodge 2500 around 4:30 p.m., the Oregon State Police said.

Deets, 75, was critically hurt and airlifted to a Portland hospital. His front-seat passenger, 49-year-old Matthew Deets, died at the scene. Both men are from Colton.

The driver of the Dodge, Beverly Parker of Woodburn, suffered only minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
