Dump truck catches fire after being stolen, left in gear

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A dump truck stolen in Lane County caught fire after it was driven down an embankment and left in gear and running, deputies say.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said Duman, Inc. (the company that owns the truck) reported the truck stolen from a nearby work area. An employee later found the burnt truck down an embankment and partially in Horton Pond.

Investigators determined the truck was left in gear and running.

Anyone with information on the thief is encouraged to contact the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at 541.954.9698.

A $500 reward is being offered by the company for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this damage.
