Early morning crash kills one on Hwy 228


One driver did not survive

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One person died in a two-car crash on Highway 228 early Sunday morning. Fire and law agencies responded to the scene near mile post 4 at approximately 2:44 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a Chevy Silverado was traveling west when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Honda Civic, said Oregon State Police.

Shedd resident Cody Sanders, 33, who was driving the Chevy, was not injured in the crash, nor were his two juvenile passengers. However, Honda driver Jessie Kater, 25, of Brownsville, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by emergency responders.
