PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Beaverton’s School of Science & Technology has been rated the top Portland-area public school for 2020. The ranking is compiled by Niche, a website for researching K-12 schools and colleges across the country.
According to Niche, the rankings include 94,474 public schools and combines user input such as comments from current students, parents and alumni, with analysis of factors including campus life, extracurricular opportunities, sports, gifted and special needs programs, and student/faculty/curriculum diversity.
The School of Science & Technology (SST) got an A+ grade from Niche, citing high state test scores, SAT/ACT scores, graduation rates, and a student-teacher ration of 25 to 1. The only category the school got dinged in was clubs and activities.
“SST’s tight-knit community is extraordinarily welcoming and supportive,” the school’s principal, Andrew Cronk, wrote in a statement to KOIN 6. “Our teachers are both talented and knowledgeable in their disciplines. The staff is dedicated to learning what a student needs to be successful and making sure they get just that. SST’s parent community is very active and supportive in planning student activities and events that help make the school a fun place to learn.”
The school is actually combining with the Health & Science School next school year, citing a budget shortfall. The new, merged school will still be at the same location on NW Walker Road.
The Beaverton School District had four of the top 10 schools locally.
