8.2 strikes off quake off Alaska coast, prompts tsunami alerts


Epicenter ESE of Perrysville, Alaska

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An 8.2 earthquake happened off the south Alaska coast around 11 p.m. Wednesday, triggering tsunami warnings for parts of Alaska.

The epicenter was 91 kilometers ESE of Perrysville, Alaska.

Several tsunami alerts were issued for areas of Alaska and Hawaii, but all were canceled within several hours. The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center confirmed there is no threat to any west coast states.
