Driver dies in rollover crash north of Salem

A stretch of 55th Ave NE in Marion County was closed for over 2 hours Sunday afternoon

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One person died in a rollover car crash north of Salem Sunday afternoon.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were called out to 55th Avenue NE around 1 p.m. They found a Toyota Camry had gone off the roadway and into a nearby field.

The driver, who has not yet been identified, was declared dead at the scene.

According to the initial investigation, authorities believe that the Camry was driving northbound when it was unable to negotiate a curve, causing it to drive off the road and roll over.

A stretch of 55th Ave NE was closed for over 2 hours Sunday afternoon while the crash was investigated. Deputies said they are not certain if speed or alcohol contributed to the incident.
