Dumpster fire brings Hazmat to Troutdale waste facility

TROUTDALE, Ore. (KOIN) — Gresham Fire crews were sent out to a waste management facility in Troutdale Thursday for a dumpster fire from which workers smelled a chemical odor shortly before it ignited.

Workers were using a compactor when they saw a white powder catch fire. Two people were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, said Gresham Fire.

Crews were able to extinguish the flames. A hazmat team is now investigating the cause of the fire at the Waste Management Troutdale Commercial Transfer Station.
