‘He just always had a funny, goofy smile on his face’

SANDY, Ore. (KOIN) — A family is struggling to cope days after a drunk driver struck and killed a man, the sole caretaker for his wife who is fighting a brain tumor.

“He just always had a funny, goofy smile on his face,” Amanda Kelleher said about her dad Chris.

On Friday, Chris and his wife Gina were pulled over on SR 551 when he was struck and killed by a car. Officials said the driver, Kenneth Pepperling, was drunk at the time.

Amanda and Tony said their dad could fix anything and always went out of his way to help other people.

“He was just really nice. He’d give you the shirt off his back if you needed it,” Amanda said.

Gina is struggling with her health as well.

“We just found out about four months ago, five months ago, that I had a brain tumor. And he was helping me through it,” Gina said.

She has had 12 MRIs and is about to have her 3rd biopsy. Chris paid the bills and was her caretaker.

The family has created a GoFundMe to help with expenses.
