PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The MF Tasty food truck in North Portland serves a unique menu inspired by Spanish-Mexican flavors.
Eric Gitenstein opened the cart four years ago, originally located on NE Mississippi Avenue. He moved into a spot on N Williams Avenue where he is the only cart on the lot.
There is also ample outdoor seating and a shipping container turned into covered seating for rainy days.
Gitenstein moved from Arizona to Portland after working in the restaurant industry for over a decade. He moved with hopes of working with food and decided to open the cart.
“I really miss the Spanish-Mexican flavor profiles you find in Arizona, and I don’t find them to be as predominant up here, and the fact that I lived there for 20 years and cooked there professionally for about 10, I would say makes me a good candidate to kind of, you know, cook from the heart, and do what I do best, and create these dishes off memories,” he said.
The cart is not located in a pod, something Gitenstein said makes it feel more like a restaurant. He loves being a part of the food cart family and doesn’t have any immediate plans for expansion.
