GOLD HILL, Ore. (KOIN) — A Jackson County woman found a live World War 2-style mortar in a shed on her property that was later safely detonated by an Oregon State Police unit.

For more than 30 years, the woman has lived in the house in the 400 block of Chavner Street in Gold Hill. She told authorities she found the mortar in a shed on her property, took it out to her yard and then called police.

Jackson County deputies then called for help, and an explosvie unit was sent from Portland. The area was blocked off and the mortar was moved before being set off.

No one was hurt.

Officials said this was a live device and the woman wasn’t aware of the danger. How it got there remains unclear.
