Vancouver man taken into custody after SWAT standoff

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A Vancouver man was taken into custody on Monday evening after a more than 3-hour standoff with regional SWAT teams that began when the man's girlfriend reported to deputies that he was armed with a knife and had threatened to kill her.

Veniamin Inokentyevich Zimin, 37, was booked into Clark County Jail on one county of felony harassment.

Clark County deputies and Vancouver Police responded to the 15100 block of Northeast 69th Street in Vancouver at approximately 3:22 p.m. When they arrived, deputies said they found the woman who called 9-1-1 outside of the home. Zimin then came to the door holding "what officers believed to a handgun," according to a release. Deputies said Zimin failed to follow orders and retreated back inside.

Deputies said they attempted to negotiate with Zimin, but he stopped responding. The SWAT team on site served a search warrant at 6:50 p.m. and took Zimin into custody without incident.
