Man in custody after hours-long standoff

The man barricaded himself inside and threatened deputies with weapons

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man is in custody after an hours-long standoff with authorities in Marion County Tuesday night.

The sheriff's office said John Leonard Rousseau, 51, threatened deputies with a knife and a small caliber rifle when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at SE Marion Road and SE Stayton Road around 2:20 p.m.

The Marion County SWAT team worked to deescalate the "highly agitated" suspect and eventually took Rousseau into custody Tuesday night.

Rousseau was taken to the hospital with minor injuries he got during the standoff. He faces charges of menacing and unlawful use of a weapon for this incident and has outstanding warrants for criminal mischief and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Residents were asked to stay indoors and away from the area while the SWAT team worked.
