PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) ---- The water advisory remains in place for vulnerable populations in Salem.
Water samples taken on Friday show cyanotoxins in the drinking water distribution system are below EPA Health Advisory guidelines, however, the advisory remains in place as a precaution.
More water sampling results will be published Tuesday. The city said they are expanding their use of a powdered activated carbon that they have been testing to treat the water and are working on other permanent solutions.
The advisory is in effect for:
Children under 6, pregnant and nursing women, those with compromised immune systems, pre-existing liver conditions, those receiving dialysis, other "sensitive populations," the elderly and pets.
