Lloyd theater moving into mall, apartments in place

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) --- New plans are underway to construct a combined total of 1300 new apartment units across from the Lloyd Center where Lloyd Cinemas currently sits.

Design firm Holst Architecture describes the plans as a mixed use village with more than 35,000 square feet of retail space, along with structured parking. Lloyd Cinemas will move inside the mall when Sears closes.

The project is scheduled to happen in 2 phases. Phase 1 is building some apartments in the parking lot. Phase 2 puts apartments where the Lloyd Cinemas sits, though this still needs approval from the design commission.

"We're gonna go up, we're gonna cantilever out, and we're putting in a 14 screen state-of-the art Regal multiplex," General Manager Bob Dye says.

Construction on the theater will start in April and should be completed within 2 years.
