2 drivers hurt in fiery crash on Hwy 551 near Aurora

One driver was extricated and airlifted

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A driver was extricated and airlifted and another driver escaped a burning truck in a crash on Highway 551 near Aurora.

An ambulance came upon the crash at about 3 p.m., the Aurora Fire District said. A box truck was on fire and a second car was badly damaged on the other side of the road.

The ambulance crew called for help. Responders worked to put out the truck fire and surrounding brush fire then used the jaws of life to free the trapped driver of the car. The driver was taken by LifeFlight to a hospital.

The driver of the box truck was able to escape after the crash and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

No further details have been released at this time.

Highway 551 was temporarily closed at the intersection with 99E. It’s since reopened. Oregon State Police is investigating the crash.
