PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland man convicted of killing his 15-month-old daughter has been sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
Prosecutors say Darian Lee McWoods overdosed the girl with methadone in December 2013. The girl named Kamaya also had broken ribs and other injuries.
Patricia Fisher, the girl’s great grandmother, described Kamaya on Wednesday as a loving child who craved human interaction.
She told McWoods: “When you took my sweet, great grand baby away from me, you ripped a hole in my heart that can never be filled.”
A jury last month convicted McWoods of murder by abuse, manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, criminal mistreatment and tampering with a witness.
