Man jumps floors in parking garage to escape police

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A suspected car prowler was arrested early Tuesday morning in the REI parking garage, located at 1405 NW Johnson St.

Portland Police were called to the area after witnesses saw two men enter the parking garage just after 4 a.m. One was wearing a black mask the other had a bandanna over his face.

Officers searched the building and found one suspect on the 4th floor. Officers say he jumped a retaining wall and dropped to the 3rd floor of the garage, almost hitting a police car that was driving through.

The suspect, 30-year-old James Brown, exited the building through a mesh window covering and was standing on a glass awning above the sidewalk. Officers eventually convinced him to climb down, where he was arrested.

The second suspect was not found.

Brown faces several charges, including criminal mischief and possession of meth.
