PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Joseph William Green Jr. was sentenced to over 8 years in prison after sneaking into a house and sexually abusing a 76-year-old woman while she was sleeping.
Green entered the woman’s house through an unlocked basement door just after 1 a.m. nearly a year ago on September 12, 2018.
He pleaded guilty to sexual abuse, burglary, assault, and criminal trespass. The attempted rape charge was dismissed.
The woman told police that Green made his way into her bedroom, physically and sexually assaulting her before her adult daughter heard the disruption and rushed to her aide.
The victim told police she knew the 31-year-old man as a neighborhood panhandler. The only other interaction they had was when he previously approached the victim and her daughter for help.
“I hope that by having food and shelter for the next several years will give you time to figure out how to support yourself without taking away from others,” the victim said in court on Monday. “I don’t think you’re a bad person, but I hope you understand that forcing yourself on another person is a hurtful thing to do to everyone, including yourself.”
