Milepost 97 Fire 55% contained


A level one evacuation remains in place

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Milepost 97 Fire burning in southern Oregon is 55% contained as of Monday.

The fire started on July 24 and has spread to 13,119 acres. Officials say the fire was human-caused.

Crews say there is still much work to be done to get the fire fully contained. Hand line dug by firefighters completely surround the fire.

On the Milepost 97 Facebook page, officials said: “All evacuation level notifications have been lifted. While no evacuation levels are in effect, southern Oregon residents are encouraged to “be ready” (level 1) throughout the course of fire season, as fire can strike and threaten communities anytime during the heat of the summer.”
