Missing Mt St Helens hiker walks out OK

Hiker was with 3 other hikers and a guide

COUGAR, Wash. (KOIN) -- A hiker who went missing Thursday at the Marble Mountain Sno-Park on Mount St. Helens walked out safely on Friday.

The Skamania County Sheriff's Office tweeted the hiker was safe when he appeared early Friday afternoon.

The sheriff's office said a group of four hikers with a guide made the summit and were on their way back down when one hiker went ahead of the others to start packing up their camp.

However, when the guide and three other hikers got to the camp, it was still set up. They went back up the trail to look for the missing hiker. The guide said he thought he saw an icy patch where someone may have slipped and fallen.

Search efforts continued Friday morning after crews didn't find the hiker on Thursday night.

Marble Mountain Sno-Park is the starting point for the Worm Flows Climbing Route for the Mount St. Helens summit. It's the primary climbing route used during the winter.
