PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Hikers found the body of a missing Portland woman in a creek in Curry County.

Michella Craft, a 27-year-old woman who had been living in Portland but who had recently been seen in Curry County, was reported missing on May 17, according to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday, a 9-1-1 caller told Curry County deputies that he and his friends had found a body in the water up Emily Creek off the Chetco River just east of Brookings.

The caller led responding deputies and search and rescue officials to the body. Officials said the body was submerged in about 2 feet of water, up against a log in the current.

After pulling the body out of the water, authorities identified the person as a woman in her twenties.

They also found her clothing and camping items above the 2nd Bridge on the Chetco River and on Tidewater property.

Fingerprints taken from the body were used to identify the dead woman as Craft.

Her cause of death is under investigation.
