PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Stayton mother faces a manslaughter charge in connection with a suspected arson that took the life of her 2-year-old boy in February.

Jessica Pearce was arrested and charged in Marion County for both manslaughter and child neglect. The 26-year-old is being held without bail.

On February 1, the child was found dead by firefighters battling a 3-alarm fire near West Washington Street and North Birch Avenue  in Stayton. Officials quickly suspected the fire was started on purpose, the Oregon State Police said.

Authorities from multiple law enforcement agencies in the region were called in to help work on the case, including Marion County homicide detectives.
