PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The week of Oct. 9 is National Fire Prevention Week and during its 101st year, fire authorities are reminding people to stay safe.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking is the most common cause of home fires and fire injuries.

AM Extra was joined by Andrea Vastis, a fire safety expert with NFPA and their director of public education, to talk about fire safety and share ways to prevent fires in the kitchen.
