SALEM, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man will spend life in prison for killing his mother and attempting to kill his father.
The Statesman Journal reports Brett Pearson received a life sentence on Wednesday for aggravated murder and 10 years in prison for attempted murder. Pearson pleaded guilty in March to the crimes.
Court documents show Pearson plotted his mother’s killing for weeks in 2014 and agreed to pay a friend to help him. The two were 17 at the time.
His mother, Michelle Pearson, died of a gunshot wound to the neck and her husband, Wilfred Pearson, recovered from multiple gunshot wounds. The two were shot in their Keizer home.
Pearson, the son, apologized in court. His defense lawyer, John Storkel, said using methamphetamine robbed his client of compassion.
