PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – In an effort to get people to pay their taxes, Oregon has released the names of the top 100 businesses and individuals who owe money to the state.
The Oregonian reports that Randall D. Jeffers, of Woodburn, topped the list for individual tax evasion. According to the Oregon Department of Revenue Jeffers owes more than $3.8 million in personal income tax. On the business side, temp agency Courtesy Staffing, of Boardman, owes the state $509,000.
Jeffers could not be reached for comment.
This is the first year the state has posted a list of its most delinquent taxpayers. Officials say they notified each taxpayer and gave them an opportunity to pay their debt before releasing their information.
