Help clean up Oregon’s beaches and rivers with SOLVE

There are more than 140 sites across the state where you can help

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Get back to the beach or explore a part of Oregon you’ve never seen before at the SOLVE Beach and Riverside Cleanup.

The annual event is in its 35th year and there are more than 140 sites across the state where you can do your part to keep Oregon beautiful.

“We’re so lucky to live in Oregon, such a beautiful state with parks, neighborhoods and natural areas,” SOLVE Program Director Quintin Bauer said.

Bauer said it takes work to keep those areas pristine, and that’s why SOLVE is looking for volunteers this weekend.

You can pick up litter or beach debris or help clear invasive species, like blackberries and ivy.

This year, SOLVE is hoping to cut down on waste by asking you to bring your own supplies.

“So if you bring a bag you have from home, a used grain bag like this, a dog food bag, a bucket,” Bauer said. “If you bring that along with gloves and a reusable water bottle, that will really help us reduce the amount of cleanup supplies that we use.”

The Oregon Lottery supports the fall cleanup and watershed protection projects across the state.

“Oregonians understand the beauty that is Oregon and SOLVE helps make that something that not only we can enjoy, but our children can enjoy, and their children can enjoy. It’s just one of those things that kinda pays itself forward,” Chuck Baumann with the Oregon Lottery said.

“It’s a great thing for us to be a part of with SOLVE,” Baumann said.

There’s still time to sign up for the event on Saturday, September 21.
