PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man whose boat sank in the Willamette River Tuesday night was rescued by kayakers, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office said.
The man put his boat in the river from Rogers Landing in Newberg but didn’t return. His family reported him missing and a search was started.
While the official search was underway, kayakers in the area spotted him and called for help. The Marion County Marine Patrol rushed to the spot and brought the man safely back.
Witnesses to the rescue told KOIN 6 News the man’s family showed up at the ramp with smiles on their faces.
It’s unclear at this time how and why the man’s boat sank or how long he was in the Willamette River.
KOIN 6 News will have more information later in the day.
