PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — South Albany High School has decided on a new nickname.
The school, formally known as the Rebels, announced that the student body selected the Redhawks as their new mascot.
Back in April, Albany Public Schools Acting Superintendent Tonja Everest recommended that South Albany High School change its “Rebels” mascot. School principal Brent Belveal also recommended the change.
The former mascot name had been debated for a while.
The school said the new mascot’s image is not finalized. The school will being replacing Rebels logos with Redhawks images this summer.
