Suspect car narrowly misses deputy; single shot fired

Oregon

The Yamhill deputies were uninjured from the event

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A deputy fired a shot as a car fled from authorities on the outskirts of Lafayette Friday night, said the McMinnville Police Department.

Yamhill County Sheriff’s deputies were doing a routine check at a cemetery on Duniway Road at 10 p.m. when they discovered a car on the grounds with a man and woman inside. When trying to talk to the people in the car, the two drove off, almost hitting one of the deputies in the process. As a result of a deputy almost being hit, another deputy fired a single shot.

The suspects drove off.

YCSO deputies later found the car empty in a Lafayette neighborhood. Authorities searched the surrounding area but could not find the man and the woman who were originally in the car.

McMinnville Police said that there is no credible threat to the community despite not locating the suspects. Neither of the two deputies were injured from the incident, and both are on administrative leave, which is a “normal course of action from this type of incident,” said the McMinnville Police Department.

Anyone with more information on this case is asked to contact the McMinnville Police Department or the Newberg-Dundee Police Department.
