PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The body of a woman who drowned in the Willamette River on Saturday was recovered during an 8-hour operation Tuesday.

Tracy Allen, 37, was floating the river with friends on August 31 when they were overturned by running into tree roots. Allen was wearing a life jacket, but the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said she got snagged on a tree and forced underwater.

Crews searched into the night Saturday and Sunday before suspending their search due to dangerous conditions.

On Tuesday, crews on 2 boats worked to cut logs and roots away to reach her.

“Our thoughts are with the family and while tragic, we are honored to have helped return Mrs. Allen to her family,” the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
