Passenger dies after SUV crashes into tree, pole

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A passenger died early Thursday morning after an SUV crashed into a tree and pole in Southeast Portland.

Portland police said the single-car crash happened near Southeast Foster Road and 134th Avenue around 1:30 a.m. A witness reported the crash to a nearby fire station and then left.

When officers arrived, they found a crashed black Ford Expedition. The male passenger, whose age was unclear, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a man, was extracted from the car and taken to the hospital.

Southeast Foster Road was closed from 134th to 136th Avenues, but reopened shortly before 5 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency dispatch at 503.823.3333. Investigators would also like to speak to the witness who let the fire department know about the crash.
