Shots fired after Home Depot theft; suspect, man hurt

Police were called to the Home Depot in the 11600 block of NE Glenn Widing Drive

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two men were hurt when shots were fired following a theft at a Home Depot in Northeast Portland, officers said.

Portland police responded to reports of a theft Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Home Depot on Northeast Glenn Widing Drive.

Before officers arrived, a loss-prevention agent confronted the suspect — an adult man — on a bike trail between Home Depot and I-205. A man who saw what was going on also got involved and a confrontation ensued between the men. Officers said that’s when weapons were produced.

Both men were hurt. The suspect was taken to a hospital with what were thought to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The other man was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was cooperating with the investigation.

The suspect’s identity has not been released.

Police are investigating the incident and asking for anyone who may have helpful information to call 503.823.3333.
