PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A motorcyclist was taken into custody after police said she sped away from an officer, crashed the bike then fled on foot.

Portland police said the incident started around 12:30 a.m. Thursday near Southeast 122nd and Powell. A swing shift officer tried to pull her over for traffic violations, but she fled eastbound on Powell.

The officer didn’t pursue her due to risk to both the operator and the public. However, police said the woman crashed in the curves around Southeast 143rd.

Despite crashing, police said she continued to flee on foot, so they called in for assistance, including a K-9 unit. As they closed in, a neighbor called to report that the suspect was hiding in his backyard.

She was taken into custody without incident and then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers later determined the motorcycle was reported stolen in February. They added that there’s not too much damage and the owner will get it back.

The suspect will face felony elude and stolen vehicle charges once she’s released from the hospital.
