PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A trio of congressional Democrats answered questions about their proposed “Medicare for All” act on Saturday at Portland’s Benson Polytechnic High School.

Oregon Representatives Earl Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici introduced the measure earlier this year along with Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal in the House of Representatives.

They said their goal is to make healthcare a right, not a privilege.

Thirty million Americans lack health insurance, according to the lawmakers, and tens of millions can’t afford to use the coverage they have.
