PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The race for the U.S. Senate position in Washington state is down to two. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D) will have to fend off Susan Hutchison (R) if she wants to secure her fourth term in the senate.

Cantwell released a statement after the primary results

“I am honored and humbled by the trust voters have in me to represent our Washington values. I am going to keep fighting for access to healthcare for people with pre-existing conditions, make prescription drugs more affordable, and expand access to cost-effective care for more people. We must also protect women’s health and privacy. We need to work across the aisle to expand apprenticeship programs so employees can gain the skills they need for higher wage jobs and employers can find the workforce they need to continue building world class products. We must protect Washington’s agriculture economy and open markets for Washington farmers to send their products around the globe.”

U.S. 3rd Congressional District

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beautler (R) will head to the November election after securing over 40 percent of the votes, where she’ll face Carolyn Long (D). Long earned 37 percent of Tuesday’s turnout.
