Portland drag queens raise money for cancer

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Local drag queen Poison Waters is bringing fun to fundraising for cancer this week.

You don’t want to miss the Cancer is a Drag event at the Melody Event Center in Southeast Portland. All of the money raised for the event benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

There are some great auction items like a rare bottle of old Rip Van Winkle bourbon, an autographed photo of Linda Blair and a royal tea basket featuring a piece of Napolean’s china.

“I love the idea of incorporating drag, which is always fun and tongue and cheek, and partnering with something that’s really serious like cancer, and the great work that LLS does,” Cancer is a Drag organizer Chad Harder said.

Harder was diagnosed with Leukemia two years ago and wanted to give back now that he is in recovery.

The event starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Tickets are $50 and VIP tickets are $75.
