PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Single-space parking meters in Portland are now a thing of the past.
The Portland Bureau of Transportation removed the last remaining single-space parking meter in the city on Thursday, December 1. The other 453 now-obsolete parking meters were removed already this year.
The city has been phasing out the single-space meters in favor or pay stations that take credit cards or coins to pay for any spot along that block.
Parking meters have been used in Portland since 1938, when an hour of parking cost just $.05. The meter removed from SW Pine and 5th Ave will be donated to the Oregon Historical Society as a piece of Portland’s history.
