Remember to slow down in school zones

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland police are focusing their efforts on a back-to-school traffic safety campaign beginning Wednesday, the first day back for Portland public schools.

The PPB Youth Services Division, Traffic Division, and precinct patrol officers will have a highly visible police presence around local schools as the new year starts up. They’ll be working to enforce the traffic laws to keep students safe.

Officers will be making sure drivers are obeying traffic laws in school zones and they’ll be highlighting the importance of traffic safety during this time of year.

If you’re driving near a school, remember to only go 20 mph in a school zone and watch for kids and other walkers in the area.

The goal is to reduce crashed and keep these areas safer.
