PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Almost 300 low income and underprivileged kids from the Portland area are outfitted for school thanks to the Sunshine Division’s Shop With A Cop program.
Kids did their shopping at Gateway Fred Meyer on Wednesday morning. These are children that have been recommended by local social services agencies. Their families are low income and the hope is they’ll arrive for the first day of school more self-assured, confident and ready to learn.
Police officers are building bridges with these kids by helping them shop and pick out clothes. Often times the cops get as much out of this experience as the kids do.
Kohr Harlan shows us the impact the program is having and the smiles it’s putting on everyone’s faces.
