PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As you go about your day on Monday, try to share a kind gesture with your train or bus operator for national Transit Driver Appreciation Day.
Monday, March 18 is recognized by transit agencies across the U.S. as a day to appreciate transit operators.
Portland TriMet is no exception.
TriMet said its riders “already share a unique culture of gratitude” as it’s not uncommon to hear people on its buses thanking their drivers as they get off at their destinations.
Officials with Portland’s transit company asked all riders to try to remember to say “thanks” as they take the bus, train, WES Commuter Rail or LIFT Paratransit Service to get where they need to go.
“Working with the public and being acknowledged is one of the top reasons why our operators say their work isn’t just a job… It’s the best job they’ve ever had,” said TriMet.
