PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon Department of Transportation spent much of Monday morning cleaning up lanes of northbound I-5 at Marquam Bridge after a semi-truck carrying hay crashed and tipped over.
The crash was reported around 5 a.m. Monday at Exit 300, which is the exit that takes drivers to I-84 eastbound and Southeast Water Avenue. Drivers had to detour over I-405 until around noon, when the lanes reopened.
The weight of the trailer’s load was estimated to be 90,000 pounds, so an extensive effort was required to move the semi upright and tow it away.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police suspect speed may have been a factor. KOIN 6 briefly spoke with the driver at the scene of the crash. He was not injured but wouldn’t provide any specific reasoning to how the crash occurred.
